RUC and verification-digit validator
Paste a RUC and get its DV with the DGI's official algorithm. If you already have a DV, we tell you whether it matches.

Compute the DV
What is the RUC verification digit?
Two digits the DGI computes from the RUC with a modulo-11 formula. They go on every electronic invoice next to the RUC, and if they do not match, the invoice is rejected.
The DV depends on the type of RUC — individual, company or NT RUC — and, for individuals, on the province and the letter (E, N, PE, AV, PI). That is why a validator that does not ask the type gets it right sometimes and wrong other times.
When the DV may not match
- An individual newly registered as a taxpayer: the DGI warns that the DV changes on registration. Use the one shown in eTax 2.0.
- Legacy formats (SB, EE prefixes, fincas): undocumented; we do not compute the DV and we say so.
- Wrong type: try "Detect" and, in doubt, pick the type by hand.
When it does not match, check in eTax 2.0 before invoicing; an electronic invoice with a wrong DV does not go through.
Algorithm: DGI, modulo 11 v201805. Open-source implementation (MIT, Juan Corradine, 2024), the same one Tadpole uses. This tool informs; the DGI has the final word.
In Tadpole the DV is computed automatically as you type a client's or supplier's RUC, on every form and at the point of sale; if you type a different one, it warns you before invoicing.
